In October, 2016, the expert group of the Beijing Municipal Science&Technology Commission reviewed the “Beijing Engineering Research Center of Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary and Critical Care” in Beijing Chao-yang Hospital, Capital Medical University. Professor Tong Zhaohui, the director of the engineering center, reported comprehensively on the main directions of research & development and achievements of the center in recent years, which received unanimous praise from the evaluation experts. The Respiratory and Critical Care Engineering Center has successfully passed the triennial “big exam” and obtained the operational qualification for the next three years once again.

The Beijing Engineering Center, recognized by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Science and Technology, is an important component of the Beijing Science and Technology Innovation System. It is a useful supplement and reserve force for the National Engineering Technology Research Center. On the platform of industry-university-research cooperation, it undertakes the function of transforming and industrializing major scientific and technological achievements in Beijing. As of May, 2016, a total of 8 hospitals have been approved to establish engineering centers, including 5 affiliated hospitals of Capital Medical University. The Respiratory and Critical Care Engineering Center of Chaoyang Hospital was approved in 2011, which is one of Beijing’s engineering centers relying on hospitals.

The Respiratory and Critical Care Engineering Center is supported by Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, and its specific operation is in the charge of Beijing Respiratory Disease Research Institute. The collaborative construction units include Beihang University, BMC Medical Co., Ltd. (BMC), Beijing Yaguo Technology Co., Ltd. and other national high-tech enterprises that are leading in the field of Biomedical engineering in China.

Since 2015, under the guidance of the new leadership team and technical committee, the Respiratory and Critical Care Engineering Center has condensed its research direction, formed an innovative team, and achieved a number of important achievements in a relatively short period of time.

The Respiratory and Critical Care Engineering Center, in view of the actual needs of prevention, diagnosis &treatment and rehabilitation of major respiratory disease, combining with the unique advantages of our unit, defined chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory failure and respiratory tumor as the key diseases that research and development focus. It refined three main research and development directions. The first direction is R&D and clinical research of respiratory failure diagnosis and treatment technology equipment, and non-invasive mechanical ventilation related equipment and technology are the focus of R&D. The second direction is the development of big data management platform and data mining research for respiratory diseases, mainly to gradually establish and improve the remote management cloud platform for respiratory diseases and the respiratory disease medical management model based on big data. The third one is the research and achievement transformation of new technologies for respiratory endoscopy diagnosis and treatment and the development of new technologies for diagnosing respiratory system tumors using respiratory endoscopy.
